2. When you're on the road

As a newbie in the Deliveroo rider fleet, you may encounter different issues and different types of orders, such as groceries order, stacked order, large order, etc... Before going online, let's get familiar with all the possible scenarios before you first encounter.

3. Payment & Fees

After completing your first deliveries, you may wonder how and when you will get paid. Deliveroo offers you a fee system that pays based on the distance and time that each delivery will take to complete with various incentives and boost fees on top.

Frequently asked questions

  • What are the requirements for being a rider?

    To ride with Deliveroo you’ll need:

    • Proof of your right to work in Hong Kong
    • A smartphone – (iOS 11 and above) or Android (6.0 and above)
    • Your own vehicle (bicycle, scooter, or foot) with the necessary safety equipment
    • Your own Hong Kong bank account

    You must also:

    • Be 18 years old or above
    • Scooters will also need vehicle insurance.

  • What are the required documents to apply as a rider?

    First, you need one of the following documents to prove your right to work in Hong Kong, which could be:

    • HKID
    • (Non-permanent): Passport with valid visa

    Then, you need to submit one of the followings to verify your bank account number, which could be:

    • A bank statement
    • An e-statement

    If you’re applying to ride as a scooter you’ll also need to provide:

    • HKSAR Driving licence
    • Vehicle registration Document
    • Motor Vehicle License

  • What does the free rider insurance cover?

    All Deliveroo riders receive personal accident and income protection for free. This includes coverage for injuries and protects you from financial costs in the unfortunate event of an accident.

    All riders including cyclists, scooters and walkers are covered when delivering an order.

  • What kit does Deliveroo offer to riders?

    Once you’ve completed the application process, you can order the professional kit from the Deliveroo Kit Store – we’re running a special offer for new riders where core kit items are discounted. Here’s what is included in our bundle:

  • How do I get paid?

    Riders get paid for each delivery they make. The exact order fee varies per delivery as it is based on distance. Your total earnings will be made up of order fees, acceptance-based boost fees and surges. You will be told of the delivery fee before you accept the order. Visit here for more details.

    Fees are paid every week on a Wednesday. If you want your fees sooner, you can use our cash out feature.

    Riders keep 100% of any tips they receive and these are paid at the same time as the rest of your fees.

  • How long does it take to apply?

    There is a high volume of applicants and fluctuating demand for new riders in Hong Kong. The wait between now and the next stage of the application process varies based on the demand for new riders. 

    Your account opening may take up to six months for account creation. We will email you as soon as we have an update regarding your account opening. Stay tuned!

  • Does switching zones speed up my application waiting time?

    Switching to another zone does not affect your waiting time.

  • Can I borrow my friend’s scooter and apply as a scooter rider?

    Scooter rider applicants must apply with their own scooter vehicle. 

    If you are not the registered owner of your scooter vehicle, you may choose to change the vehicle type on your application to ‘bicycle’ or ‘walker’.

  • Why can’t I log in to the Rider App after applying?

    You can only log in once you have completed the entire application procedure. Once everything is ready, you will receive a confirmation email then you will be able to log in after that!

  • I’ve already submitted the application but chose the wrong vehicle type, what should I do?

    If you chose the wrong vehicle type, please email us at ridersupplyhk@deliveroo.hk. However, depends on the vehicle you chose and you wish to change to, you might have to sign a new supplier agreement with us.

  • My rider account has been created and I am able to login ot the rider app. What should I do to change my vehicle type?
    • To change to a scooter rider, please submit your documents here
    • To change to a cyclist/walker, please submit your documents here

    If you would like to change to a cyclist/walker, please ensure you have delivered at least 30 orders before requesting the change.

  • Can I start working without a thermal bag?

    Please make sure you are using a thermal bag when working, or you may face termination for breaching the Supplier Agreement.

  • Who is eligible to enjoy the $200 discounted price for Deliveroo bundle?

    All first-time applicants who purchase kit bundles for the 1st time will be eligible to purchase for $200

    The bundle price will be discounted to $200 HKD after you add the bundle to checkout.

  • I can’t see the $200 discounted price in my shopping cart, what should I do?

    There are a few reasons why the discounted price doesn’t show.

    Please check the following:

    • You should choose the bundle type that corresponds to the vehicle type you applied for (e.g. for walker application, please choose walker bundle).
    • Do not add other items to your shopping cart in addition to the bundle
    • The $200 price will show at the payment page after you click 'purchase' 
    • The email address you used for rider application and online shop account must be the SAME

    If you have followed the instructions above and the price is still not discounted, please purchase the kit bundle and reach out to us via ridersupplyhk@deliveroo.hk. We will refund the extra amount to your original form of payment.
